Q.T.

Lil and I rarely have alone time together. Mainly because Emmy’s trailing behind or needing my attention or I’m caught up with daily chores. We usually have our mommy and daughter talks while we’re folding laundry or Emmy’s napping.  Last Saturday was our first day out for “Mommy and Lil day”.  It was gloomy weather but we made sure we’d make the most of it.

In the morning, Lil wanted to try out an art class at Michael’s Craft Kids Club, Mini Masterpieces. It cost $2 (including material) and was a half hour class. They had an inspiration painting as a model but each child could paint their own interpretation. Frankly, it was something we could’ve done at home but it was a great opportunity for Lil to meet new friends.

After Lil’s art class, we did a little shopping at Michael’s. Lil loves to write and journalize daily. We found a cute journal and note set.

We also found some large sized photo albums that were 50 % off.  We’re using them to showcase some of my fave artwork by Lil through the years and might store some of her school award certificates in them. I got Lil some cute canvas bags to store her pens and coins.  I got myself this cute colorful egg-shaped candle trio with wire nest holder.

At lunch, Lil and I were thought the silence was oddly funny and relaxing. For the first time in a long time, we could taste our food and talk to each other without being interrupted. It was so great to hear Lil talk about school, friends, shows she likes and voice out her concerns about many things (like puberty!). My little girl’s growing up!

I had a plate of French onion ribeye sliders and Caesar salad.

Lil had a bowl of mac and cheese and chicken tenders.

After lunch we made a quick stop at Half Priced Books. We found this 200 plus paged book Pasko (Christmas) that explained tradition, shared a few Filipino recipes and showed beautiful photographs. Lately, Lil’s been showing great interest in learning more about my Philippine culture. I thought this book could be one of her many reference books. Plus, the book was on clearance for $3!

Next stop was a 5 mile walk around the lake.  We were met by a couple of these American coot birds. Lil thought their webbed feet’s appearance resembled feathers.

In just seconds, a bunch of them came rushing our way. We call this photo, “The Attack of the Coots”. The poor birds thought we were going to feed them.

What do you see? Lil sees a heart-shaped hole in the bush.

These flock of swan geese weren’t too thrilled with the weekend crowd.

This friendly sidewalk led us to our next and final stop, the library. 🙂

Lil’s been wanting to learn chess. After a couple games we opened her magnet science kit and got creative.

It was a great day! Lil and I have decided to make sure to have more Mommy and Lil days. We definitely enjoyed our quality time together. Priceless!
