Christmas Parol (Lantern)

Last year, the girls and I had planned on making a traditional Filipino Christmas parol (lantern) but never go to. Yesterday, we finally made one!

What you need:

10 bamboo sticks (I couldn’t find individual ones from craft store. So, I dismantled a bamboo placemat that I bought from the dollar store and used that instead.)

Cellophane wrap paper (colors: green, red, gold)

Glue Stick

5 2-inch wooden pegs

Rubber bands

Glue gun

See step by step from Bayanihan Center, SF here.

Glue the cellophane paper on frame and trim excess paper.

The most tedious task with this project was gluing and trimming the cellophane paper. Almost there.

To make the star’s tips more festive, I wrapped some red ribbon around the rubber bands.

I used a nice golden yellow wrapping paper for the lantern’s tails. Emmy thought my parol resembled a piñata. 🙂

We also made two star paper lanterns. This is a way easier project. I’ll post step by steps soon. Do you have any special arts and crafts projects for the holiday season? Happy Holidays!
